1980-85: 1980 was Basil Mawbey’s 1st season at CHS. Coach Mawbey’s record at CHS was an impressive 114-27. His teams won Sectionals all 6 years and was Regional Champs in 1980, 82, and 83. The Spartans were also Semi-State & State Champions in 1983. Coach Mawbey led CHS to SCC Championships in 1980, 81, and 82. The Spartans went undefeated in the SCC in 1981 and 1982.

The 1983 State Championship team set a new CHS record for wins in a season (26). Their only 2 losses were to Seymour & Franklin. The previous record was 20 wins, which was set in 1981.

1983 STATE Tournament:

Sectional: defeated Cambridge City 33-22 and Brookville 69-35.

Regional:  defeated Batesville 49-48 and South Decatur 63-42.

Semi-State:  defeated Indian Creek 67-45 and New Castle 70-57.

State: defeated Princeton 62-57 and Anderson 63-62
