The Lady Spartans defeated EIAC rival Franklin County by a score of 47-46 on Saturday night. The team shot the ball extremely poor the first 3 quarters (20%), but closed it out by shooting 8-11 (73%) in the decisive 4th quarter. Once again, the team did an outstanding job of taking care of the basketball and turned it over only 5 times.
Taylor Stephen put the Lady Spartans ahead for the last time by going to the free throw line for a 1 and 1. She connected on both free throws to put the team ahead 47-46. The game ended with a defensive stop by CHS.
Stephen led CHS with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. She was followed by Mikalia Taylor with 6 pts. and 5 rebs., Destiny Ruch and Courtney Phillips each scored 5 points, and Ashley Coker and Amanda Cobb each added 4 points.
The Lady Spartans now stand at 10-9 on the season and currently in second place in the EIAC at 4-1. Their next game will be this Friday (1/23) with the JV game starting at 6 pm.
