The boys and girls cross country teams traveled to New Castle on Tuesday evening to compete in the New Castle Invitational. The girls placed 4th and were paced by freshman Tylissa Beckner. On a hilly course, Ty ran a strong middle of the race to pass several runners over the final half of the race and finished 5th overall in a personal best time of 24:10. Caroline Arndt (16th), Hallie Wilson (24th), Ellen Isbell (29th), and Sharon Usher (36th) rounded out the scorers for the Spartans.
The boys also used a strong second half of the race to place 5th overall. Wes Smith was the top placer for the Spartans finishing 8th overall. Hunter Sullenbarger was close behind in 10th place. Rockey Young (40th), Kyle Downard (41st), and James Smith (42nd) finished in a tight pack to score for the Spartans. Dylan Combs battled a sore leg to finish in 49th place while Michael Milano ran a personal best time by 1 minute 44 seconds to finish in 61st place.
Both teams are next in action on Saturday at the prestigious Flashrock Invitational at Northview Christian Life Church in Carmel. Races begin at 9:00AM with the girls racing at 10:00AM and the boys at 10:30AM.
