The Connersville JV boys basketball team traveled to Richmond to play in the Joe Spicer Memorial Junior Varsity Tournament on December 27th and 28th.

The Junior Varsity came in to the tournament with a 6-1 record on the season. They opened up play against Lawrenceburg JV with 37-22 victory. The Spartans lead 13-9 after 1 period of play and lead 22-17 at the half. A strong second half put the game out of reach holding the Tigers to only 5 second half points all coming in the 4th period. The Spartans was in scoring by Tyler Combs with 12pts followed by Clay Garrison with 9pts
The second game of the day the Spartans faced a very big and talented Hamilton Southeastern team who went on to win the tournament. The Spartans trailed at half 21-14 and struggle in the 3rd quarter only scoring 2pts but put together a strong 4th quarter scoring 18pts which was not enough to hold off HSE from the victory 39-34. The Spartans was lead in scoring by Ethan Smith wit 11pts, Drew Sherck 6pts, Clay Garrison and Dylan Logan 5 a piece.

The Spartans return back on Wednesday to take on Cambridge City Lincoln in a morning game which the Spartans was victorious with a 39-22 win. The Spartans won all 4 quarters of play and never lost the lead. Leading the way for the Spartans was Drew Sherck with 9pts, Tyler Combs 8pts, Clay Garrison and Brett Gray finished with 5 a piece.
The win put the JV in the 3rd place game against Franklin Central in the evening. The Spartans came out flat trailing 14-5 after 1st period but put on a strong 2nd quarter out scoring FC 16-2 taking the lead in at halftime 21-16. The second half was a tight game with every possession very important. The Spartans extended their lead 29-22 after 3rd period and held on to take a 33-31 victory finish 3rd in the tournament. Hamilton Southeastern finished in 1st place followed by South Bend Adams in 2nd and the Spartans in 3rd.
The Spartans will next be back in action at Greensburg Friday January 6th for a 6pm tip.
