The girls cross country team finished in 8th place at the Rushville Invitational on Saturday. Tylissa Beckner ran a 32 second personal best to lead the Spartan harriers with her 14th place finish. Alexa McDonald was next to cross the line, running a 45 second personal best, in 38th place. Caroline Arndt, Hallie Wilson, and Sarah Kalkhoff all battled through some tough circumstances to run strong races for the Spartans.
From coach Glenn Arndt: âIâm really excited about how Ty and Alexa ran today. For them to run PRâs like that, at this point of the season, is a credit to the work that they’ve put in over the summer. This has been our hardest week of training of the season so far, so Iâm looking forward to what they and the other girls will do once we start to rest up for some meets at the end of the season.â
The boys team also placed 8th at the Rushville Invitational. Wes Smith ran another strong race to finish in 20th place, in a seasonâs best time. Adam Arndt continued his strong freshman campaign, placing 29th. Kyle Downard (48th), Dylan Combs (58th), and Trevor Hux (66th) rounded out the scorers for the Spartans. AJ Napier, Jacob Sanders, and Michael Milano all ran strong races.
From coach Arndt: âSeven out of the eight boys ran either a seasonâs best or a personal best today, which is pretty exciting considering the work that they have put in this week. It was nice to see Kyle dip under 20 minutes and to see Dylan knocking on the door to get under 20. Trevor PRâd by two minutes last week and by over a minute today. Heâs really starting to come on!â
