The boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Carmel on Saturday to compete in the prestigious Riverview Health Invitational. Both team competed well, with the girls placing 10th and the boys placing 13th.
The boys were led once again by Wes Smith, who placed 23rd overall in a season’s best time. Adam Arndt battled a twisted ankle mid-race, but still held on to finish in 57th place. Kyle Downard continued his strong improvement, running a personal best by 20 seconds. Dylan Combs and James Smith were the final scorers for the Spartans. Season’s best or personal best times were also run by James Smith (PB), Peyton Caldwell (SB), and AJ Napier (PB).
Tylissa Beckner used a strong surge over the second half of the race to place 12th overall in a personal best time. Caroline Arndt ran a personal best time to place 36th. Alexa McDonald, Hallie Wilson, and Sarah Kalkhoff all ran strong races to complete the scoring for the Spartans.
Next up for both teams will be the Connersville Invite on Tuesday, which will also serve as senior night.
