The Connersville Boys Varsity basketball team pushed their record to 4-0 this past weekend with two wins over Rushville and Shelbyville. On Friday night, the Spartans hosted the Lions from Rushville in their first EIAC game of the season. The Spartans used a 2nd quarter surge to separate from the Lions and won 46-36. The Spartans were led by Garrett Silcott (19 points) and Noah Belt (12 points) in the victory. The win marked the 21st EIAC victory in a row for the Spartans. The Spartans have not lost an EIAC game since the Lions defeated the Spartans in the 2014-2015 season.
On Saturday the Spartans took on the Shelbyville Golden Bears in a battle of two unbeaten teams. The Golden Bears came into the game having won 12 consecutive regular season games dating back to last season. The Spartans battled back and forth with the Bears until the final buzzer. Shelbyville’s Zach Kuhn hit a 15 footer with 7.2 seconds to go to give the Bears a one point lead. After a timeout, Garrett Silcott went the length of the court and hit a layup as time expired to give the Spartans the 35-34 win. Silcott led the Spartans with 19 points. The Spartans held the Bears under 30 points of their scoring average and are currently ranked 8th in defensive scoring average throughout all classes, and 1st in class 4A. The win marks the 19th regular season game in a row the Spartans have won dating back to last season.
Next up for the Spartans will be their first road game of the season as they head to Pendleton Heights to take on the Arabians on Saturday. JV tip off at 6 pm!
