The C.H.S. Varsity Football Team lost for a second week in part to its inability to play consistently on both sides of the football. Similar to their performance in week 1 the Spartans showed at times just how good the young team can be but were unable to sustain drives offensively and unable to get the opposing team off the field in 3rd and long situations. Despite the loss there are several individuals that showed growth from week 1 and it is expected this Spartan squad will continue to show improvement as it prepares for week 3. Solid performances were turned in this past Friday by several players on both sides of the ball. Gavin Lynch caught 5 balls for 99 yards and completed a pass. Braxton Myers continued his assault on opposing defensive backfields pulling in 4 passes for 78 yards and a score. Even though it doesn’t show up in the stat sheet Landon Cerqua did a fantastic job picking up the Franklin County relentless blitzing giving Q.B. Kelly time to deliver the ball. Offensive lineman Alex Edwards and Alex Fox turned in solid performances as did 1st time starter Sean Cates. The defense was led by safety Chad Owens and linebackers Jayden Murray and Mitch Blakley. The Spartans will look to get their 1st win of the season this Saturday when they travel to Lucas Oil Stadium as part of the EIAC Southeast Showdown to take on Greensburg. The Spartans and Pirates kickoff the day at 12:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the C.H.S. athletic office for $12.00.
